Vernon PR & Communications 703.799.8165 rdesmone@mtvernonpr.com As Wrecking Corp. prepares to demolish the former Blackies House of Beef, the company seeks reminiscences of the Washington DC landmark ALEXANDRIA, VA, OCTOBER 5, 2006 - Wrecking Corporation of America (WCA), which has helped pave the way for the future of the DC area through numerous high-profile demolition projects, is preparing to begin demolition of the former Blackies House of Beef at 1217 22nd Street in northwest Washington DC. "In a city of monuments, Blackies was a Washington institution for more than 50 years," said Terry Anderson, Wrecking Corp EVP, "and we would like to recognize its contribution to the culture of the community by asking former patrons to send us their stories of fun, romance, and intrigue." About the Contest Wrecking Corp will present a brick with a commemorative plaque to the authors of the five best submissions and will post the winning entries on its web site at http://www.wreckingcorp.com. The stories can be about Blackies House of Beef, Blackies, the Déjà vu Lounge, or Lulu's. Winners will be notified early in November, and entries must be received by October 31 in order to be considered. Local legend has it that the restaurant was started as a hot dog stand in the 1940s, evolving into a steak house that has played host to countless numbers of residents and visitors. "We started thinking that this is a place that probably has meant a great deal to a lot of people, and we'd like to learn some of their stories and share them with the public," Anderson said. How to Enter Entering is as simple as telling the story of what significance Blackies has had for you… whether you made your first business deal there, proposed to your wife, celebrated a new job, came of age, or anything else that has kept the restaurant in memory. Entries - 500 words or less -- may be submitted via fax, email, the WCA web site, or snail mail.
