Press Releases For more information: Rosanne Desmone Mt. Vernon PR & Communications 703.799.8165 rdesmone@mtvernonpr.com "The project involves the demolition of a large mall structure plus recycling of the steel framing and on-site crushing of all concrete and masonry materials," said Terry Anderson, Wrecking Corp executive VP. "We will raze two anchor stores, JC Penney and Burlington Coat Factory, plus 100 or so specialty stores and restaurants. I anticipate that the entire job, scheduled to begin this month, will be completed in about six months." The only building to remain open is the current Macy's store. Plans are to construct a new, updated mall, Peninsula Town Center, on the site. The original mall opened in 1973, and an addition was constructed in 1976.
