Building Demolition Anne Arundel Medical Center Annapolis, MD The entire 428,000 square-foot Anne Arundel Medical Center facility was demolished to make way for a high-end condominium project right in heart of the Annapolis historic district. The complex consisted of several buildings, including a 4-story parking garage and an 8-story patient care facility and several multi-story wings that formerly housed operating and x-ray rooms, labs, offices and a morgue. The first phase of redevelopment of the site involved asbestos removal, and the removal of medical waste, chemicals and gases. A 10,000-gallon underground tank, which contained fuel oil previously used in the building's heating system, was excavated and removed the loading dock area. This was followed by the excavation and disposal of petroleum-contaminated soil at a licensed facility. The massive foundations of the century-old abandoned facility were removed without any impact to Acton's Creek, which bordered the south end of the site.
