Building Demolition

Eighth Street Office Building
804 East Broad Street
Richmond, Virginia

Demolition & Historic Preservation

Wrecking Corp. was awarded the contract for the razing and historic preservation of this 12-story, steel frame, 140,000-square-foot building that presents a number of challenges, including extremely low vibration limits to ensure the safety of an historic church dating back to 1836. The church is separated from the Eighth Street building only by a six-foot-wide alley. Wrecking Corp will dismantle and salvage historic building components from the structure, including millwork, marble and wrought iron from the interior. On the exterior, the twelfth- and third-floor terracotta cornices and ornate stone elements will be salvaged, catalogued, crated and stored to be used later in the new building being constructed on this site. In addition, all the demolition of the upper seven floors is being done by hand, one level at a time.
