HAZMAT Remediation George Washington University Hospital 23rd Street NW, Washington DC Prior to razing the 55-year-old hospital, Wrecking Corporation needed to remove substantial quantities of asbestos and other hazardous materials from the 420,000 square-foot complex. Demolition crews worked 12 hours per day, 7 days a week, using a crane-operated wrecking ball and a claw that was used to pull the building apart. All steel from the complex was separated and recycled, and concrete and stone were processed and remained on site to be used to fill the hole. Processing the debris saved the developer more than $1 million and cut down on hauling costs.
