Building Strip Out Carroll Square F Street NW, Washington, DC The Carroll Square project encompassed building demolition, select demolition, historic preservation and the excavation of 50,000 cubic yards of earth to make way for a commercial development project. The footprint of the excavation was 15,000 square feet and required a 55-foot deep hole. The work had to be done in a very small area, involving 11 contiguous buildings. Four of the brick-and-wood four-story buildings, which dated from at least the turn of the 20th century, had to be stripped out; the facades have become part of the new complex.
